Another year, another Young Voices concert! St Peter’s Catholic Academy attended the premier national collaborative school choir event at Birmingham’s Resort World Arena on Thursday the 16th of January. The afternoon began with a quick trip down the M6 to Birmingham’s NEC complex for a 2:00 rehearsal start, practicing all the songs and dance moves in preparation for the big night. From a musical medley titled Best of the West to an African folk song Kusimama, to a mix of Disney tunes, a rendition of Ghostbusters, a very energetic Queen tribute and the annual favourite Pop Medley, the stage was set for an exciting evening of entertainment. Special guest Tony Hadley (of Spandau Ballet fame) took to the stage for a performance of Queen’s Somebody To Love with the help of the Young Voices choir, as did recent The Voice winner Ruti Olajubagbe. The children especially enjoyed the dance numbers performed by the very talented members of Urban Strides.
The evening was a wonderful success and the children of St Peter’s sang and danced their hearts out. A culmination of many choir sessions led by Mr Balzarano, through hard work and determination they all represented the fruits of a rich music programme we are very proud to have here in our school. We absolutely cannot wait to start practicing again for next year!
