Our Class Saint – Saint Sebastian

During our transition sessions in July, Year 3 chose Saint Sebastian to be their class Saint. They chose him because he was a very brave man and spoke so beautifully about Jesus that others became Christians. We were excited about inviting parents to school on Tuesday 23rd January as we celebrated the feast day of Saint Sebastian with a special assembly. During this summer term we will be linking the life of Saint Sebastian to the Gospel Values of being eloquent and truthful. We have already learnt how St Sebastian spread the word of God, which was his truth, and we can follow his example.

Home Reading

Reading helps children with their knowledge, understanding and language. Children are taught to read in school. However, it is important that you encourage your child to read at home daily and listen to them read a couple of pages of their book every night. Our goal is to achieve 100% reading each week - remember the class with the highest reading % wins a treat!

Reading books will be changed every Tuesday and every week the children will also choose a library book to read over the weekend.

Click the video link below for tips on how to support your child by reading at home.

Parents, you must sign your child’s reading diaries, so your children can be rewarded with a stamp for their efforts.

Spellings

Each week children will receive spellings from the Year 3 National Curriculum to practice in class and at home.

New spellings will be stuck into your child’s reading diary every week on a Wednesday.

We are now using the Emile spelling app for spelling homework. All children have a login in which will be stuck into the front of their reading diary in September.

Please help your child to practise their spellings at home and over the weekend as their main test will be each Wednesday.

Homework

Homework is to be completed in the provided exercise book or fluency book each week. Children will be given 3 pieces of maths in their fluency books and 1 piece of grammar in their homework book. The grammar will be handed out every Wednesday (to be completed by the following Monday). Fluency books will go out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Children also log in to Times Table Rockstars and are expected to practise their times-tables weekly.

Click the link below to access our school login in page. Then log on using your child’s username & password, it will also be stuck in your child’s reading diary.
